FAQs
How does the process work?
When performing notarial acts we will meet in-person at a location in Silver Spring provided to you upon scheduling your appointment. If you require a photocopy, please make a note of that so I can provide photocopying services.
Parking at the location will be in the spots marked for “leasing.” Parking in any other spot risks towing.
How long does notarization take?
It depends on the act, number of documents, ID process and signers. Typically the process takes about 10 minutes, but I suggest setting aside at least 30 minutes. To ensure a smooth process please have ID ready and/or a clear and complete document that indicates the type of notarial act requested.
Can you notarize a document for use in another state?
Yes! I can notarize a document that you plan to use in another state.
Do you do walk-ins or mobile services?
I am appointment only. However, if you text/call my number I may be able to accommodate short notice.
Mobile Services within a reasonable range are offered at an additional $5 travel fee.
*My location is not a business. No walk-ins
What forms of payment do you accept?
The preferred method of payment is exact cash, paid at the time the notarial act is performed.
If you prefer to pay using Zelle/CashApp/paypal/check please make a note of that on your google form.
What do I do if I believe my document was incorrectly notarized?
Please contact me with any concerns you have about your document or notary certificate. I’m always willing to review and fix mistakes and, if necessary, perform a prompt re-notarization at no extra fee to you.
If you think your certificate contains a mistake, NEVER attempt to alter the certificate yourself as this could make the document legally invalid and/or expose you to fraud charges.
I’m always willing to work with individuals so even if you are unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out. It’s better safe than sorry!
What is a Notary Public?
A notary public is a civil officer who has the legal responsibility to perform notarial acts in compliance with the notary law and regulations.
What types of documents can be notarized?
The most common types of documents include contracts, trusts, power of attorney, affidavits, and much more. You will likely be informed that a document will need notarization ahead of its use.
What kind of ID do I need to bring for proper identification?
Any government issued ID is preferred, such as a passport, driver’s license, consular identification or government-issued nondriver identification card.
You may also use government identification that includes a clear signature and photograph of the individual.
What if I’m a minor and don’t have an ID?
Many minors do not have a passport or valid driver’s license. If they are unable to produce satisfactory government ID, they may use a credible witness in lieu of an ID.
A credible witness is a verification of oath of identity of the individual by someone who is:
Personally appearing before the notarial officer; and
Whom the notarial officer can identify on the basis of proper government issued identification
Can I be refused notarization?
A notary public must perform all valid notarization requests if available. The basis for refusal would be for any of the following reasons:
Signer is not present, lack of ID, document is incomplete or blank, signer appears coerced/under duress/incompetent, record is outside the scope of the officers duties and powers, conflict of interests, refusal to take an oath or affirmation
If you believe a notary has committed an infraction, you may report possible violations here.
Where can I verify your information?
Maryland Notary Public commissions are public record and can be found here.
